Psych Club
McNair Scholars Program

Many psychology students have been selected to participate in the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program at Westminster.  The McNair Scholars Program is a federally funded program, the primary goal of which is to prepare first generation, low income students and students from groups underrepresented in graduate study for doctoral studies and eventual careers in academia. The program is named after Ronald E. McNair, an African American physicist and NASA astronaut, who died in the Challenger explosion in 1986.  A key component of the program is faculty mentoring and research.  Westminster psychology students and faculty have been involved in the program since its inception at Westminster, and the percentage of McNair scholars who are psychology majors has increased steadily over the years. Currently, 5 of the 22 McNair Scholars at Westminster are psychology majors, while 2 others are majoring in the affiliated Neuroscience program!  Psychology graduates of the Westminster McNair Scholars program are currently pursuing graduate degrees at a variety of institutions across the country.  The psychology department is proud of the many accomplishments of our McNair scholars, and hopes to continue to be a campus leader in McNair participation.  If you think you may qualify for the McNair Scholars program and are interested in pursing graduate studies, please ask any psychology faculty member for more information or visit the McNair office in the basement of Converse Hall.

Psychology Club is an optional extra-curricular organization available to all students at Westminster College. By combining clinical, developmental, social, behavioral, and biological aspects of psychology in its activities, Psychology Club helps students form an interdisciplinary perspective of psychology. Psychology Club is an excellent way for undeclared students to explore aspects of psychology to see if the field is right for them. Also, because the club includes multiple perspectives of psychology through different activities, it gives current psychology majors a chance to determine which emphasis to pursue. The club also offers students a chance to use the concepts learned in psychology classes in a fun, interesting setting. Members of Psychology Club will have the opportunity to build multiple relationships with other students who share their interests. Psychology Club activities include service projects, movie showings, information sessions, and group discussions with faculty and community participation. Whether you’re a first year student or senior, Psychology Club can help you enrich your knowledge and aid in your exploration of the multidimensional field of psychology.

Psi Chi is the student honor society in psychology. For membership, students must be in the upper 35% of their class.  Induction ceremony takes place in the spring.   Members are involved in monthly meetings and various service projects during the school year.
